About Victoria

Victoria Fenner is a Canadian audio artist who has spent the past four decades exploring the medium of sound. In addition to her own sound and radio art works, she has developed many projects and performance events involving radio and sound artists.

She also has worked for CBC Radio in many capacities, most notably as a researcher for a special series on the audio art of Quebec for the renowned Radio One program “Outfront”. She has also transitioned to video, but always with the sound treatment informing and inspiring the visual content.

She currently lives in the Almaguin Highlands, halfway between Huntsville and North Bay. She also has an extensive background as a radio news journalist, a vocation which combines well with her arts practice. Says Victoria “Journalism keeps me grounded. Art helps me fly away when I'm feeling TOO grounded”.

Radio as artspace is one of her favourite things to explore, and she enjoys teaching people how to create sound rich pieces ranging from journalism, to drama, to soundscapes and everything in between.

One of her current projects is a manual called "Sounding Out Loud" which helps media arts teachers and community organizations learn how encourage their students to create audio works for radio, stage, screen, gallery installations and podcasts.
