Locktown is a sound work produced as part of the Soul of the Street project, an exploration of James Street North in Hamilton (2011). James Street North is a historic main street in Hamilton which has been undergoing gentrification since the early 2000s. The work explores attitudes towards development, asking the question “to whom does the street belong?”The work was part of the SOS project (Factory Media Arts, Hamilton, 2011) funded by the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council.

An audio road map created in Whitesburg, Kentucky, a place in the Appalachian mountains where twisty mountain roads and road signs which don't match maps almost guarantee that the driver won't get to where she is going. A rich tapestry of local voices describing how to get to their house together with signature sounds from the area create an entirely new sense of place and a fun sense of disorientation.
